The Playground is a transformation of a historic underground space into an energetic and vibrant environment. The former executive parking garage and chauffeur’s waiting lounge at the iconic Seagram Building in New York City is now two floors of amenity space, including fitness facilities, a basketball court, and a conference center.
The design objective was to create a modern and dynamic destination for a younger workforce, encouraging them back in the office in the post pandemic era. A bright color palette and stylized, abstracted sports imagery promote and encourage speed and movement. Each section of the fitness space has its own unique color palette, with a vibrant pop of yellow tying all of the spaces together for a cohesive experience.
The double height graphic overlooking the basketball court and climbing wall features iconic New York City architecture—similar to this iconic Ludwig Mies van der Rohe building—allowing the outside to be brought inside this windowless environment. Layers of abstracted imagery and interactive dimensional installations allow for discovery and playful exploration, revealing a new detail to the user during every visit.
